    I use on-grid invertor in combination with of-grid invertor (pure sine) when the main grid is off. Just need to use sensor on the wire from of-grid invertor, which controls used power, so limiter in on-grid invertor controls generated power to compensate load for of-grid inverter

    When you refer to Lead Acid batteries are you also referring to AGM Absorbed glass matt or Gel batteries also, as I understand they have quite differing characteristics to conventional 'wet cell' Lead acid batteries, ie less resistance, larger charge rates and deeper cycling 50%

      sorry continuing :deeper cycling 50% than a conventional wet cell battery at 20% discharge safely for maximum lifespan. AGM or Gel batteries obviously have more capacity than conventional wet cell L/A's.

    I have a question about inverters and batteries. I’m renovating my caravan with 240v wires throughout. I only plan to run a fridge, convection oven, lights and a tv and dvd player. The fridge will be the only one running non stop (while travelling around). The fridge is 240v 50Hz 0.73A 106W. How do I work out what size inverter and battery do I need?

      I advice against a convection over. It draws a lot of power. For the fridge, multiply the power consumption by 8 hours, which is a 30% duty cycle. 106W*8h=850Wh I made a video about system design, look it up on my channel page.

      It possible that low frequency inverters make this sound. If it did not do this before with a load attached, you might want to check for loose components or mounting it differently to minimize vibrations.

I can upload a video… to my channel and leave it up for a day or so and then remove.. if you have time to take a peek- Used hardy board backer. Attached Mr. power solar inverter middle of the road inverter not too cheap not too expensive to a battery using recommended gauge 14 , then connected battery to inverter using larger wire 8aug, two deep cycle, 12 V batteries, wired and series and then ran one solar pan… Left refrigerator on to see if it would work overnight and woke up to allow whining, caution, warning tone my best estimate is it depleted the battery however, the meter read 20 V still… I was under the impression you could drain a cycle battery down to 70%.. Thank you very much for taking the time. I enjoy your channel.

      The wire size in and out of the charge controller is different. The wire going in the battery will have to be thicker because there is more current. Power= voltage*current

    Victron 5000 is not UL listed; thus, not a good choice in CO (if you want insurance to cover any issues).

      Victron 48V MultiPlus-II UL1741 3kVA 120V is UL listed. You can place two in parallel to get 6kW of output. I linked it in the description.

    You must explain that a 3000W Inverter is Peak. The Inverter is only safe to 1500W.

      @@cleversolarpower Wrong word. Would continuous operation up to 1500W be better. The 3000W is only for a short period of time. I do believe the advertising should state the Inverter is a 1500W with a Peak of 3000W. I have an 8000W Modified Sine Wave Inverter, it is designed to run, according to my manual, at a maximum of 4000W with a Peak of 8000W for <30 seconds. This would be correct as I found this out the hard way & had to replace a 10k ohm, 10W resistor that had blown. Any reply to my inquiry on the best place to put the input Voltage to the Batteries from the Controller as regards the output Voltage going to the Inverter. Can I attach the Leads to the same place? I do like your presentations, Thank you.

    Amazing video! I am trying to make a simple solar heating system for my spa (just 700litres) with a 12v 18w pump powered by a 25w solar panel. When i connect the panel directly to the pump it works great when the sun is shinging but when it isnt it just makes a whining noise. Which i guess might damage the motor. Do you have any advice? Do you think a buck co verter would solve this problem? I would really really appreciate some help!

      18W is very low for a pump, so i guess it's just for circulation. I recommend getting another 25W panel or one 50W panel. Then use a buck or PWM converter directly with the panels.

      Normally we use fuses with DC because it's cheaper. And they are not blowing. AC breakers can blow more often so we use breakers.

    Yesterday I saw a video that shocked me. on traditional panels --- ANY shade shatters the pv output. The video demonstrated that even a 5% coverage of shade dropped the output from 93w down to 17w. What do you say?

      It's true. If you look closely at a solar panel there are cells in series. If one cell receives less irradiance, the current will drop. And the panel will take on the cell with the lowest current.

    Questtion on this MPPT controller. I hae 2 house to start batteries on my boat. Got to the boat and app said they were floating. Showed 20v from 2 100 watt panels 0 amps. When my boat is running my battery monitor shows -1.59 amp draw? Why? The voltage is 14.8 from motors. Shunt is installed correct to a neg bus bar. All house loads are off during readings. This also has a ACR

      It's the idle consumption of your inverter. If you turn off the inverter, the reading will drop.

      If you are grid-tied i recommend using a string inverter to offset you energy consumption. Especially if you have a feed in tariff.

    Is it possible to run a 24 V 16s BMS system on 16 3.2 V cells configured in an 8S2P configuration or do you need to separate BMS units?

      I don't think that is possible. You need a 24V 8S BMS and wire your cells in 8S2P. So wire 8 sets of 2 cells in parallel, en then series connect them. One balancing lead for every two cells.

    I'm confused, so if I have a 3000-watt inverter in my trailer with 12 volt 460 to 560 amp hour, Lithium batteries aren't correct? Usage would be the majority of 12 volt with short usage of 110 volt AC! Coffee pot, slow cooker, microwave, etc...? My concern is to ensure I have enough power in reserve for cold weather camping to run the furnace and other 12 volt heat pads....etc...

      It will work, but it's just not efficiently sized. Your current will be high, so you need to have thicker wires. If it was 48V, then adding a converter to 12V would have been more efficient and cheaper.

    I will be using 440w panels with the same charge controller. I already have 20kw of rack batteries which aren't enough.. I don't run much at the moment. I will be buying more batteries to get to 40-50kw. My inverter of a growatt LF 12kw. It will be set up and fused for 300a max.

    Why would you run a fridge for only 8 hours? Usually fridge and freezers are always on.

      No they are not. They usually have a duty cycle of 30%, which means they are on for 8 hours a day. Check my video about: how much power does a fridge consume? And you will see what I mean with the graphs 😉

      It's the charging voltage of a 48V lithium lifepo4 battery.

    Nick...please help me understand how you connected the 2 sets of panels to the charge controller??? Your diagram appears to have 1 set going into the "load" outlet which I question. Thanks

      One set consists of 6 panels in series. It would have been too big to have it one the screen. The charge controller has two MPPT inputs.

    If i have flooded 12v batteries that are combined 168AH. Is that really what is available or do i will i only get 80% out of them which would be 135.? I am setting up a battery monitor. thanks

      If you have flooded lead acid batteries, you should only use 50% to increase the lifespan. You can use more, but that would reduce it's lifespan. Check the capacity of the battery with a voltage meter.

    In cloudy San Francisco, I have a 9.1 kilowatt solar panel system (mounted level on a flat roof) that cost ~$21K after subtracting a 30% tax credit. On a sunny June day, it can produce more than 60 kwh. I estimate that over the year, I will get about 10,000 kwh. Since the electric utility, PGE, charges a whopping $0.50/kwh, the solar panels have an excellent return on investment.

      $0.5/kwh is huge! I assume you are using a grid tied string inverter which back feeds the excess power into the grid? Is your feed in tariff 1-1? Would it be interesting for you to add a battery?

    Too expensive for me, hi quality components are expensive, i think a 24 system with 2v led acid batteries and a easy solar 2 gx everything here is over priced.

      A lithium battery is 1C, not 0.2C. If the battery has a 100A BMS, you can draw a max of 100A.

      It's the standard charging voltage for a 48V lifepo4 battery. For a 12V battery, it's 14.4-14.6V.

    Hi I like option 3. I’m currently (no pun intended) putting together a 24 volt system with a3000 watt hybrid inverter and 2 200ah 24 volt batteries and would love to see a diagram for fusing and breaker values and of course the wire and proper amount of pv. My inverter is a eco worthy with mppt. Thanks

    Make sure when you size your wire the ocpd is rated for that temperature many are only rated at 75 degrees

      Overcurrent protection devices are not rated for a specific temperature. The wires are. I always recommend using welding cables, and i have linked them in the description. However, i think you mean that the wire have different temperature ratings, which is true. Lower temperature rating means less current carrying capacity.
